비영리단체 오픈스페이스 배는 현대미술을 위한 진취적 통로이자 빠르게 변화 및 확장하는 미술 개념을 반영하는 능동적 공간이다. 배밭(pear)이 있던 공간에서 시작해 부산의 지역성으로서의 배(ship), 확장성을 담은 배(double)를 담은 이름처럼, 구성원들이 한 배를 타고 현대미술의 발전을 도모하고자 한다. 은 대만 작가 첸칭야오가 주목한 국가 권력, 집단주의, 그리고 아시아의 복잡한 근현대사를 패러디와 코스프레, 영상 설치 등 다층적인 매체로 탐구해 온 과정을 보여준다. 이번 전시의 핵심인 전쟁화에서 시작된 <전장의 소녀들> 시리즈는 제2차 세계대전 당시 일본 제국주의가 선전 도구로 활용했던 관제 기록화를 모티프로 한다.

《Battlefield: A War That Never Ended》

The non-profit organization Openspace Bae serves as a progressive gateway for contemporary art and an active space reflecting the rapidly evolving and expanding concepts of the art world. The name "Bae" carries layers of meaning: it originated from the pear orchard (梨; pronounced bae) where the space first began, represents the ship (船; pronounced bae) as a symbol of Busan's regional identity, and signifies the doubling (倍; pronounced bae) of growth and expansion. Much like being on the same boat, its members work together to promote the advancement of contemporary art.

Chen Ching-yao is a Taiwanese artist who has explored state power, collectivism, and the complex modern and contemporary history of Asia through multi-layered media, including parody, cosplay, and video installation. The core of this exhibition, the Girls in the Battlefield series, is inspired by the official war records (war paintings) used as propaganda tools by Japanese imperialism during World War Ⅱ.
